Continuing cooperation: nutrient-rich staple foods in Zimbabwe

The Happel Foundation continues its commitment to combat malnutrition in Zimbabwe. Farmers are switching to nutrient-rich, high-yield, and climate-friendly varieties.

These varieties each contain high levels of the micronutrients iron, zinc, and vitamin A, which are particularly important for health.

The results so far show that farmers can switch to fortified crops such as cassava, maize, and sweet potatoes without compromising yields. More than 2,500 farmers have already been successfully trained in this technique. The cultivation and processing of these crops is now being further consolidated and expanded.

This will enable over 4,000 farmers in Zimbabwe to secure their income and combatmalnutrition and its consequences.
