Project partner: Abalobi
Abalobi is a smartphone application for small-scale fishermen in South Africa. The small-scale fishermen and their families live in great poverty. Using the Abalobi app, they can sell their catch simply and directly to restaurants, hotels, etc. in the region. This considerably increases their sales opportunities in competition with large suppliers and thus provides them with a secure income. As a result, they can significantly improve the living conditions of their families.
Using the Abalobi app, small-scale fishermen can accurately record their current catch as well as their income and expenses. The app also enables them to build a network, exchange valuable information about fishing, warn one another of severe weather and enter into a cooperative.
