The Happel Foundation gives support for people in distress. In doing so, the foundation focuses on people in Switzerland (mainly Central Switzerland) who are in social and/or economic distress through no fault of their own. The beneficiaries are social hardship cases that cannot find support through public authorities or anywhere else and who are thus threatened to “fall through the cracks of the system”.
This also includes institutions that give support to people in distress and are specialized in working with people in need. For more detailed information please check our areas of activity.
Currently the Happel Foundation supports amongst others the following projects which help people in distress in totally different ways:
The Paradiesgässli offers help for children and young people from families affected by addiction and poverty in Lucerne. They receive support with their homework, learn how to handle money responsibly and the routines of everyday life. This increases their chances of later being able to live their lifes independently and financially.
The Happel Foundation supported Tel143 Zentralschweiz – Die Dargebotene Hand in expanding its services during the Corona pandemic. This enabled them to offer valuable support to more desperate people in the region through conversations.
The re-entry into the job market can be very difficult, especially after a long break. In Central Switzerland the Happel Foundation supports people in their return to work. To this end, it works together with institutions that provide intensive support to those people. The common goal is to get them out of the social welfare system in the long term through permanent employment.
The Happel Foundation regularly supports Wärchbrogg in modernizing its workshop. This enables people with mental disabilities to carry out contract work in various areas, gain experience in the world of work and build up career prospects.
There are many migrant women in Lucerne, who speak little or no German. This is why these migrant women end up living in isolation at home or in a parallel society. For this reason, the Sentitreff has launched the “Opening Doors” project. This is a language course for mothers and financially weaker women. There they learn German and more about everyday life in Switzerland. Meanwhile the young children of these migrant women are looked after in the Sentitreff in age-appropriate groups – so they too learn German in a fun way.
The education of their children is a challenge faced by parents, teachers and education professionals on a daily basis. Many aspects interact with each other and can lead to anomalies. Through in-depth knowledge, adults can detect possible problems in child behavior at an early stage and react competently. Fritz+Fränzi is targeted at parents and teachers of school-aged children. It strives for being a guide that provides orientation and information about education and child-raising.
The Happel Foundation supports projects according to the principle of “help for self-help”.
